The beautifully maintained and restored colonial buildings, the colourful Wats, and nice shops make for a great little capital to explore — population 133000. Not only is the French influence evident in the architecture, but it can also be found in the cuisine of many local restaurants that specialize in fine French food and carry a large selection of French wines. The pastries are also incredible. Combine French cuisine with Southeast Asian prices and you have a culinary haven for budget travelers. Where else in the world can you get a tender filet mignon, a warm baguette, fresh organic vegetables, french-fries and a drink for under ?
